AWC has successfully led InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping to achieve Thailand’s first-ever LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification, v4 BD+C: Hospitality, a globally recognized standard for green building excellence.

“At the same time, AWC is expanding its sustainability efforts across its broader portfolio. In 2025, the Company plans to certify four commercial office buildings — The Empire, Athenee Tower, 208 Building Wireless Road, and Interlink Tower Bangna — and two additional hotels in Pattaya, Chonburi — to LEED Gold or higher. This strategic initiative represents another critical step in AWC’s ambition to foster sustainable growth by balancing business success with environmental preservation and community wellbeing.”
LEED, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the world’s most widely used green building rating system, recognizing best practices in energy efficiency, resource management, and occupant wellbeing. The LEED Gold v4 BD+C: Hospitality certification awarded to InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping evaluated seven key categories:
1.) Location and Transportation: Strategically located in Chiang Mai’s Chang Klan district with excellent public transport access, reducing reliance on private vehicles. 2.) Sustainable Sites: Designed to minimize environmental impact, including mitigating urban heat island effects through high-reflectance exterior materials. 3.) Water Efficiency: Over 47% reduction in indoor water consumption; 100% of landscaping irrigated with recycled water. 4.) Energy and Atmosphere: Energy savings exceeding 27% through efficient LED lighting, advanced HVAC systems, solar energy integration, and the elimination of CFC-based refrigerants. 5.) Materials and Resources: More than 75% of construction waste diverted from landfills; over 16% of materials sourced with recycled content. 6.) Indoor Environmental Quality: Enhanced ventilation by 30%, installed advanced dust filtration systems, and emphasized occupant health and comfort. 7.) Innovation: Applied proactive risk assessments during design and developed comprehensive emergency preparedness plans. The project achieved all four Regional Priority credits from USGBC, focusing on water use reduction, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality enhancement.
